About the artist: Theodorus (Dorus) van Oorschot (Schijndel , 1910 - 1989 ) was a Dutch painter. He lived and worked mainly in Schijndel. He was a student of the Academy of Arts of Tilburg and Antoon van Domburg, Charles Baker and Nico Molenkamp. Van Oorschot paints in the style of The Hague School, impressionistic, coloristic. His masterful mix of colors and his soft impressionistic style is meant to create a deeply calming effect and inspire the viewer. His works can be found in various museums including Museum Kempenland Eindhoven. His old studio has been used as a museum: the Atelier van Oorschot . On the corner of Schootsestraat and Venushoek is a statue of him, depicting him holding an easel. The Dorus van Oorschot collection, consisting of 160 paintings can be found in the Jan Heestershuis Museum, also in Schijndel with parts of it in the Hague.
