From late Hollywood Star's Anthony Quinn's personal collection! Authentic "gorgeous form" early 20th century West Africa, Burkina Faso, Mossi Tribe fertility doll. Dolls such as these were given to young Mossi girls as a toy doll but also to prepare her for motherhood. In addition, caring for such dolls was believed to promote fertility. Interestingly, Mossi dolls are typically carved by male blacksmiths. This figure has a petite, delineated face in front of a pair of perforated, tab-shaped ears and incised lines throughout body. Size: 7.75" H (19.7 cm )-Wonderful old patina and Old inventory number written in black ink atop white pigment beneath.

Provenance: Certificate of Authenticity from well respected Gallery that specializes in Antiquities where piece was originally purchased. Further- ex-private collection of actor Anthony Quinn and his wife Katherine, Bristol, Rhode Island, USA acquired prior to 2000
