Authentic antique Southeast Asia, Burma (Myanmar), ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A hefty and playable example of a brass meditation nipple gong that hangs from a wood and rope framework. The circular instrument features a thick lateral rim, a relatively flat face, and a protruding central boss which the player would hit to create a drawn-out ringing sound. Included is a wooden mallet with a padded head wrapped in bright orange fabric. The surface is covered in matte brown patina, and the gong creates a pleasing ringing sound when struck with the mallet. Size (gong): 10.875" Diameter (27.6 cm); (gong w/ framework): 27" H (68.6 cm); (mallet): 6.6" L x 2.3" W (16.8 cm x 5.8 cm).

Condition: Gong, mallet, and wooden bar are all original; rope framework is modern. Minor abrasions and indentations to gong, with light staining to handle and orange fabric of mallet. Nice patina across gong. Pleasing sound emitted when struck with mallet.
