Authentic Pre-Columbian monochrome Whistling Artifact from the Northern Coast of Peru. This vessel from the Chimu Culture dates from the Intermediate Period circa 1100-1470 CE (AD). Beautiful, hand-built blackware whistle pottery vessel depicting a seated man as he plucks his chin with a set of tumi-shaped tweezers. The vessel exhibits a slightly rounded but stable base, an apple-shaped 'body' which doubles as the figure's body, a spout-form left arm, and a head-shaped spout with a trio of petite perforations on top, perhaps for use as a rattle at one time. The man plucks his face with the tweezers perhaps to keep himself nicely groomed, and above his almond-shaped eyes and prominent nose is a cord-patterned headwrap. Size: 4.7" W x 6.75" H (11.9 cm x 17.1 cm). The tone hole creates a high-pitched sound when air is blown into the cylindrical spout emanating from the back chamber. Unique authentic artifact from ancient Peru. Condition: Spout attached to left arm is from another vessel (most likely during ancient period) Highly-burnished with restoration around spout base on left arm as well as area of lower body on verso, with resurfacing and overpainting along verso area, and light earthen encrustations around spout base on left arm. Minor abrasions to base, body, and head, with minor fading to black pigment in scattered areas. Nice preservation to figural form. Old inventory label beneath base. Provenance: Comes with both Certificate of Authenticity from well respected Gallery that deals in Antiquities. Further: ex-Drimmer collection, Florida, USA, before 1965 Released from private collection that has sold in New York City galleries as well as top auction-Guaranteed Authentic All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
