Authentic Pre-Columbian Jalisco Culture (present day Western-Coast of Mexico) seated mourning figure. This rare form artifact dates from the proto-Classic period (300BC-300 AD). This stone-burnished pottery figure seated upon thick legs and holding both arms under the pointed chin, perhaps in a mourning pose. The elongated head features impressed eyes, a petite mouth, a prominent nose, and ears adorned with rings. Size: 5.5" W x 7.625" H (14 cm x 19.4 cm). Excellent provenance with certificate of Authenticity (see below). 


Provenance: Comes with certificate of authenticity from well respected gallery (where it was purchased) that deals in Antiquities. further provenance: exBarakat Gallery, Beverly Hills, California, USA, acquired prior to 2000.

Condition: Professional repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor nicks, abrasions, and fading to pigment commensurate with age, with light earthen deposits, and a couple of stable hairline fissures. Great preservation to overall form.
