Authentic polychrome geometric vessel artifact from the Southern Coast of Peru. This Ica culture artifact dates from the Intermediate to Late Horizon circa 800 to 1200 CE (AD). Pottery jar of a bulbous form with a rounded base, a spherical body with flattened front and back faces, a sloped shoulder from which a pair of handles projects, and a spherical upper chamber. The highly burnished exterior is decorated with fine black and red cruciform motifs atop the beige ground and has concentric rectangular boxes of gradually expanding sizes surrounding the circular crosses. The handles and upper chamber also exhibit black and red linear motifs. Height approx. 9 3/4 inches in height (24.76cm) by 7 inches in width (17.78cm).
